Welcome to
Klein Cederberg

Nature Reserve

Klein Cederberg Nature Reserve is a magical off-the-grid art-filled hideaway set within the majestic Cederberg Mountains and Cape Floral Kingdom, a mere 2.5 hour drive from Cape Town.

Our nine rustic stone cottages are set amidst 16,000 privately owned hectares of untouched wilderness which falls within the 200,000 hectare Swartruggens Conservancy, offering big skies, wide open spaces, and unobstructed views of the Tafelberg, Sneeukop, Katbakkies, and Koue Bokkeveld mountains.

Klein Cederberg’s inspiration is art, wilderness, and ecological conservation.

We invite you to: gather, unplug, and unwind. Observe contemporary sculptures by leading South African artists set against the backdrop of pristine nature. Stargaze under the clearest of skies. Enjoy fire cooked meals and reconnect with the essential in life: family, friends, and uninterrupted time in nature.

Experience the spirit of the Cederberg through a breathtaking landscape with significant history, once home to South Africa’s first inhabitants, the San people, whose culture dates back some 20,000 years ago. San Rock Art remains on some of our property’s sculptural sandstone rock formations, shaped hundreds of millions of years ago by glaciers.

At night, the fires & lanterns will be lit adjacent to the original 1700’s Settler’s Dwelling and Stable. Sunsets give way to starry skies. This former farmstead served as a grazing migration stopover point for sheep and goat trekkers traveling to Ceres Karoo via Katbakkies Pass.

The peaceful, private, and rustic back-to-nature atmosphere of Klein Cederberg is the perfect family, friends, or work retreat, ideal for guests of any age.

COVID-19 Protocol:
We want our guests to have a safe and healthy environment for their holiday. To prioritise the well-being of our guests and employees, we monitor the coronavirus developments and maintain COVID-19 safety measures and cleaning guidelines.

We adore pets, but out of respect for the assortment of local wildlife that are full-time residents at Klein Cederberg, we kindly ask that you please leave your beloved furry-legged ones at home.

Please don’t make us pick our favorite season, we love them all! We are a full season eco-lodge and each season offers a different experience of nature’s beauty.

Feel free to inquire about the best periods to visit for flowers, birding, or botany exploration.

A note about our weather: Klein Cederberg Nature Reserve is a semi-desert environment and is in the mountains. This means the days can be quite hot and with a very strong sun, while nights can suddenly turn very cold. Occasional snowfalls do occur. We advise you pack for both hot and cold to be comfortable and prepared: sunhats, sunblock, and cold weather clothing and sleepwear.

Prepare for a digital detox! We are really and truly off-the-grid. We unfortunately do not offer Wi-Fi, and cell reception is extremely rare. We offer the opportunity to truly unplug from technology and to fully immerse yourself in peaceful nature.

“Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity…”
–John Muir
